Mirassol Futebol Clube is facing a significant financial dilemma after securing its spot in the group stage of the 2026 Libertadores with an impressive 2-0 victory against Vasco da Gama. The club, which had the best campaign for a debutant in Brazil's elite football, now needs to invest millions to meet the structural and operational requirements set by Conmebol. The need for investments was not part of the initial planning, reflecting the club's rapid rise on the national scene. In addition to being the second-best São Paulo team in the competition, Mirassol has surpassed giants like Corinthians and São Paulo, which has highlighted the need for financial adjustments. One of the main requirements is the establishment of a women's team, as Conmebol mandates that all participating clubs in the Libertadores have a structured women's football department. Mirassol already has the necessary infrastructure to start this project, but the costs for forming and operating the women's team are still undefined. Another challenge is the capacity of the Estádio Municipal José Maria de Campos Maia, which currently holds about 15,000 fans, while Conmebol requires a minimum of 20,000 seats for Libertadores matches. If the club cannot make the necessary adjustments in time, it may be forced to play its games in another city.
